One Hot Girl

That would be my daughter Christina, who ran a fever of 38 to 38.5 (celsius) all day today. She had a fever yesterday too, and has had a cold all week. Today, though, she was pretty listless. Nothing like my little girl. Actually, in the morning she seemed pretty good, and we went to the market like we planned. She seemed to enjoy that and especially liked playing at the playground. One would never guess she was ill.

That all ended when we got home. She never likes coming in, and today was no exception. Things went from bad to worse, to the point that we put her down for her nap early. She zonked, so at least part of it was her being tired. She only stayed down for an hour, and just seemed out of sorts. She went back down after a couple of hours, and had a good two hour nap that time.

We gave her infant’s tylenol to bring the fever down just after she woke from her first nap. I think that was the only reason she ate. Yesterday, we couldn’t get her to eat anything. She did pretty good today, considering she was sick. She was almost back to normal after her bath (doctor mentioned lukewarm water was the best to bring down body temperatures, so I’ll bet it helped her fever), but she was really ready for bed tonight.

If she’s the same tomorrow, we’re taking her to the hospital. Luckily, we have the Children’s Hospital for Eastern Ontario here in Ottawa (known as CHEO), and she’s been there once before when she hit her head (on cement!). I’m really hoping that today was the nadir of the fever and she’ll be back tomorrow.

I would so much rather be sick than have to worry about my sick little girl.

Oh, and Mother’s Day came early. We went to the market in the morning specifically to get her a book. I made her a “nice” meal tonight. It was supposed to be her day today, as she preferred celebrating on a Saturday rather than a Sunday. Maybe we can salvage tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

I know what it’s like. We’ve been worrying for 2 weeks about our newborn’s lack of weight gain. I would rather be worrying about my own lack of weight gain than hers.

Hope Christina is feeling better, and wish her Mom a Happy Mother’s Day from us.

We just got back from the doctor’s. Seems she got two infections for the price of one–1 in the chest and 1 in the gut. She’s in good spirits now, but we got back tomorrow to see if she’s getting antibiotics. Fun.
