Work Lost - Remember to Back the F@#$ Up!

So my 3 year old mini hard drive (Z-Cyber 1 GB Zling) just died. It can’t connect with anything, though the indicator shows it is still receiving power. And guess what, I have work on a short story that I hadn’t backed up on the drive. But that’s not the worst. The worst is that four episodes of my projected serial for Mundus Novit, also not backed up, were on the drive. I am still hoping that the computer I use at work can read the drive. If not, it’s just another reminder not to be so frikkin’ lazy and back everything up. Maybe twice.

With 4 GB USB flash drives costing only $20, I think I’ll pick up 2 this time. Back everything up twice. I know, though, that after a year or two of contentious backing up, I’ll get lazy again and start doing it only sporadically. Then there will be another catastrophe, and I’ll get all upset and swear to always back up my data.

If you’ll allow me a misquote: everything has happened before and will happen again.

F, this is a long shot, but I would like you to try something. Place the flashdrive in a moisture tight containrer and throw it in the freezer. This is an old data recovery trick for harddrives. Even if it does work, it will only work for a few minutes.

Trying this now. Hope it works. There are only 2 files I need to really recover.

Didn’t work. Ah well. My own frikkin’ fault.
