Cyber-state Avatar Toolkit Delayed

The Cyber-state Avatar Toolkit will be delayed in order to insure that there is art included with the product. Unfortunately, IMK, who has done the art for such releases as Blood & Guts 2: In Her Majesty’s Service and Covert Forces Redux proved unavailable. Other issues have led to a delay in the delivery of artwork and so Sword’s Edge Publishing is looking at alternatives.

The Cyber-state Avatar Toolkit will be out soon, definitely by the end of July. SEP apologizes for the delay.

May Update

Cyber-state Avatar Toolkit: Now in editing. Expect to see this available in June. It still requires layout, but it should come out to about 7 or 8 pages in length. This will be released as part of the Modern Dispatch series.

Military Recon: 75% complete. This product has been revised to meet the Roles & Classes standard and format. It still requires some minor work and will be our release after the Cyber-state Avatar Toolkit. Expect this one in July.

Shadow Op: 50% complete. Like Military Recon, this product requires revision. The basic text is complete but needs alterations and additions to fit into the Roles & Classes line.

Covert Forces Redux in Print

Covert Forces Redux is now available as a perfectbound book with black and white interiors. You can find it and other SEP print products at our Lulu store.

 Covert Forces Redux cover

Based on the acclaimed Covert Forces, Covert Forces Redux is a d20 Modern supplement, updated and expanded to almost double its original size. Here you’ll find all the information you need to play operators in some of the world’s most famous special operations forces. With extensive descriptions of Australia’s SASR, Canada’s JTF-2, the US’ Delta Force and SEALs, and the United Kingdom’s SAS and SBS, it also includes concise descriptions of 44 other special operations forces from Algeria’s Saaykaa to the Ukraine’s Spetznaz Brigade. This PDF also includes feats, combat options, rules for “fluid situations”–from ambushes to snipers–new pieces of equipment, new weapons, and new vehicles.

Covert Forces Redux is indespensible for players and game masters interested in exploring the world of spec ops.

The Accidental Survivors Podcast, Episode 025: Good Modern Gaming

One would expect that a discussion of good gaming would include good gamers, or at least substantially skilled gamers. Well, we can’t promise you that, we can only promise the Accidental Survivors opining about Good Modern Gaming. If you’ve got the time to waste, they’ve got the hot air to expel. Luckily, it’s only coming out of their mouths. Get ready to be impressed, or at least amused . . . possibly disappointed. You won’t know until you give it a listen.

SEP Update, Spring 2008

Here’s an update on what we’re working on at Sword’s Edge Publishing.

Covert Forces Redux Print-on-Demand
Covert Forces Redux has been redesigned for the print market and is in the middle of layout. Once this is complete, print versions of the supplement will be available through Lulu. SEP is looking to increase those products available in print through Lulu, but this is not a high priority for us at this time. Should Covert Forces Redux perform particularly well as a print product, the SEP print catalogue will certainly become a higher priority.

Cyber-reality Avatar Toolkit
The Cyber-reality Avatar is the persona of a character immersed in a virtual reality information network such as represented in many works of cyberpunk. The product is being called a toolkit as it offers a multitude of options for each particular issue when playing an Avatar in an RPG. This product is being planned as part of the Modern Dispatch line through partnership with RPG Objects.

Roles & Classes
Two new advanced classes will be available through SEP’s popular Roles & Classes line. The Military Recon is a modern army scout, moving ahead of the main force on foot or mounted in light armoured vehicles. The Shadow Op is an intelligence operative that disappears into the local populace to strike like a ghost and disappear like morning mist. Both of these new classes will be available in the third quarter of 2008.

Fist Full of Comics & Games Interview
Fraser Ronald was interviewed for the podcast Fist Full of Comics & Games. The interview focused on the upcoming Mundus Novit: The Changed World, being released in partnership with Dark Quest Games.

Check back in later for further updates and news.

In Memory of E. Gary Gygax

The RPG community lost one of its founders with the passing of E. Gary Gygax on March 4, 2008. As a way of thanking the late Mr. Gygax for his contribution to the creation of the hobby we all love, Sword’s Edge Publishing will be donating its revenues from March and April to the Christian Children’s Fund, a charity to which his family has indicated Mr. Gygax was much endeared.

If you are not interested in purchasing products from Sword’s Edge Publishing, we would ask you consider a donation to the Christian Children’s Fund in memory of Mr. Gygax. After all, there would be no d20 without D&D, and no D&D with EGG.

R.I.P. E. Gary Gygax

For those of you who do not know, E. Gary Gygax has passed away.

Information on funeral arrangements can be found here.

Though I never met the man, he had an astounding impact on my life and the lives of the millions of people who have enjoyed or now enjoy role-playing games. There may be arguments about the “first” RPG, but none can deny Mr. Gygax was a pioneer, certainly the face of RPGs to a very great degree.

It’s a sad, sad day. Thank you, Mr. Gygax, for all you have given.

SEP + DQG = Mundus Novit

It is official, you will be seeing Mundus Novit from Dark Quest Games. No time frame yet, but I know it has been in editing as I have been asked to make corrections. As I have said elsewhere (such as the Accidental Survivors), this version matches my vision for the project rather than meeting a style or paradigm dictated by another. I am thrilled to be working with Neal Levin at Dark Quest Games again, as he got me into RPG writing, and has always been very supportive.

As I learn more, you will learn it here. If you are interested in seeing any of the other collaborations between DQG and SEP, check out the Teams and NPG series. Serieses? Spell-checker says no. In case the Accidental Survivors doesn’t fill all your Fraser’s Voice needs, there are “blodcasts” available for some of these products, which you can find here.
