An elite, covert action team is sent into a country suffering a civil war to extract diplomatic staff. Unfortunately, their own country is well on the way to tearing itself apart, with an administration careening into authoritarianism.
Before the Detachment deploys, an old ally begs for their help getting his family to safety, but that ally is critical of the administration, and the Clandestine Action Special Executive is told to leave the family to their fate. The operators aren’t going to ignore orders to evacuate an honorary consul and consular staff, but they aren’t going to abandon someone they can save.
